When the surf is up, you may be tempted to go sight see at Peahi (Jaws). But the road is a muddy track through private property and there is no place to park on the road. On big surf days, Hana Highway on the North shore becomes clogged with cars and a virtual parking lot. Bring drinks and snacks and something to entertain you while you wait in traffic.
Your best bet to see the big surf and the crazy tow-in surfers is either Baldwin Beach (just before Pa'ia), Ho'okipa Beach (about a mile after Pa'ia, just past Mama's Fish House) or the bluffs above Maliko Gulch (another 3/4 mile past Ho'okipa). Baldwin and Ho'okipa have more parking (never enough but there is a parking lot). Bring binoculars for Baldwin because they surf the outer break. Binoculars are not necessary for Ho'okipa. (Note - never go to Ho'okipa or Baldwin beaches after dark.)
Andrea Moller is one of the few women ever to surf Peahi (Jaws).
